Conditions

Sexual health challenges come in many forms. At Dr. Sex, we have experience treating a wide range of conditions and concerns that can affect your intimate life. No matter what you’re going through, remember: you are not alone, and most sexual issues are very common and very treatable. Below are some of the key conditions and situations we help our clients overcome. If you don’t see your specific issue listed, just reach out – chances are we can help with that too, or point you to someone who can.

Conditions We Address

For Women – Common Female Sexual Health Concerns

Low Libido (Low Sexual Desire)

A reduced interest in sex can stem from hormonal changes (like menopause or post-partum), stress, relationship factors, or other health issues. We help identify the causes and use a mix of hormone balancing, counseling, and lifestyle changes to rekindle your natural desire.

Arousal Difficulties & Lubrication Issues

Some women find it hard to become or stay aroused, often leading to trouble with lubrication (natural wetness). This can make sex uncomfortable or frustrating. We address this with treatments like vaginal rejuvenation (to improve tissue response), recommendations for lubricants or estrogen creams, and exercises or therapy to enhance your mind-body connection during intimacy.

Orgasmic Disorder (Anorgasmia)

Inability to reach orgasm, or it takes a very long time, even when aroused. This is more common than you might think. Our approach might include sex therapy to uncover any psychological blocks, education on techniques or use of devices that can help, and if needed, medical interventions like the O-Shot® (which can heighten clitoral sensitivity). We aim to help you achieve a satisfying climax and understand your body’s unique responses.

Painful Intercourse (Dyspareunia)

Pain during sex can have many causes – from vaginal dryness and lack of arousal to specific conditions like vaginismus (involuntary muscle tightening at the vaginal opening) or endometriosis. We treat pain holistically: dilator therapy and pelvic floor physical therapy to gently desensitize and relax muscles, adequate lubrication or hormonal treatments for dryness, and counseling if anxiety is a contributing factor. The goal is to eliminate pain so that intimacy can be pleasurable again.

Pelvic Floor Disorders:

Issues such as pelvic organ prolapse or urinary incontinence (leaking urine when you laugh, cough, or during sex) can greatly affect sexual confidence. Our specialists provide pelvic floor strengthening programs and, if needed, minimally invasive medical options. Often improving pelvic muscle tone not only helps with bladder control but also increases sexual sensation.

Life Stage Transitions (Postpartum & Menopause)

After childbirth, women may experience changes like vaginal laxity, scarring, or a drop in desire due to fatigue and hormonal shifts. During and after menopause, low estrogen can cause thinning vaginal tissues, dryness, and discomfort, as well as lower libido. We have targeted therapies for each stage – from gentle laser treatments and lubricants for menopausal dryness to tailored exercises and counseling for new mothers adjusting to intimacy after baby. We ensure you continue to enjoy a healthy sex life through all ages and stages.

Sexual Trauma Recovery

Women who have experienced sexual trauma or abuse in the past may face unique challenges in their sexual lives, even years later. Our trauma-informed therapists provide a safe space to heal at your own pace. We often combine therapy with gradual bodywork (with your full consent and comfort) to help you reclaim your body and sense of safety in intimacy.

Conditions We Address

For Men – Common Male Sexual Health Concerns

Erectile Dysfunction (ED)

Difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection firm enough for intercourse. ED is very common, especially as men age – it can be caused by blood flow problems, hormonal deficiencies, stress, or illness. We offer a comprehensive ED program: medical evaluation to address underlying causes (including checking heart health and testosterone levels), treatments like shockwave therapy to improve penile blood flow, the P-Shot® to rejuvenate tissue, and prescription medications (such as Viagra® or Cialis® if appropriate). We also incorporate lifestyle changes (diet, exercise) that can significantly improve vascular function. With our help, many men regain strong, reliable erections and restore their sexual confidence.

Premature Ejaculation (PE)

Reaching climax too quickly, often before you or your partner would like. PE can be frustrating, but it’s highly treatable. Our approach may involve techniques learned in sex therapy sessions (such as the stop-start or squeeze technique, and mindfulness to delay climax), as well as topical anesthetic creams or medications if needed to increase stamina. We also address any anxiety that might be fueling the issue. The aim is to help you gain control so you can enjoy longer-lasting intimacy.

Low Libido in Men:

While it’s discussed less, men too can experience periods of low sexual desire. It might be due to low testosterone, stress, depression, or relationship issues. We perform hormonal assessments and offer testosterone replacement therapy if clinically indicated to boost your biological drive. Concurrently, our counselors help with any psychological or relationship components – for example, if work stress is draining you, or if emotional intimacy needs rebuilding. Soon, you’ll find your interest in sex naturally returning.

Delayed or Inhibited Ejaculation

The opposite of PE – some men have trouble ejaculating or cannot orgasm at all despite prolonged stimulation. This can be related to medications, nerve issues, or psychological factors. We handle it by reviewing any medical contributors, then possibly recommending adjustments (like medication changes in consultation with your primary doctor) and using sex therapy to work through any mental blocks. Techniques like varying stimulation, exploring different fantasies, or using certain positions can help achieve climax more easily.

Performance Anxiety & Confidence Issues

Many men, even without a clear “dysfunction,” feel anxious about their sexual performance – worrying about pleasing their partner, or fearing they won’t perform “well”. This anxiety can itself lead to ED or PE, creating a vicious cycle. Our therapists specialize in breaking this cycle, using cognitive-behavioral methods to challenge negative thoughts, and exercises to build confidence. Often, learning more about sexual techniques and one’s own sexual response in a pressure-free setting does wonders to eliminate performance fears.

Hormonal Imbalances (Andropause)

In mid-life, men’s testosterone levels can drop (sometimes called “andropause”), leading to reduced libido, energy, and erections. We address this through hormone optimization – our doctors can prescribe and monitor testosterone therapy or suggest natural supplement regimens to restore hormonal balance. With the right approach, men can maintain youthful sexual vigor well into older age.

Peyronie’s Disease

This condition involves the development of fibrous plaques in the penis, causing curvature and sometimes painful erections. It can make intercourse difficult or awkward. We offer nonsurgical options like traction therapy devices, injections (collagenase) in collaboration with urology specialists, and penile stretching/fluid techniques. Additionally, we support the emotional aspect, as Peyronie’s can be distressing – counseling can help men and their partners adapt and maintain intimacy while treatment is underway.

Relationship & Other Intimacy Challenges (All Genders)

If you identify with any of the above, know that effective help is available. At Dr. Sex, we pride ourselves on offering customized treatment plans for these conditions – often combining several modalities (medical, therapeutic, physical) to achieve the best results. During your initial consultation, we’ll discuss your concerns in detail, answer your questions, and outline a clear path forward.

You don’t have to accept sexual dissatisfaction as “normal” or “just part of getting older.” Most sexual problems can be overcome or significantly improved with the right approach. Our clients frequently tell us, “I wish I had sought help sooner.” So please, reach out – relief and improvement are closer than you think. Dr. Sex is here to help you address these conditions and celebrate a renewed sense of pleasure and intimacy in your life.
